It cost him all the money in hist pocket, including the fare home. The model Viking ship lay in the window of a little old shop in an unfamiliar back street, and Peter, on his way to the dentist, lost his heart to it at once. And that's a job Jeffrey Rodinov takes very seriously as well. Someone who can make her feel like a queen-in and out of bed. Someone needs to watch her and show her the royal ropes (and cuffs.and scarves.). The lady says she doesn't need a bodyguard, but that's where she's wrong. Very kissable neck, back, legs, wrists, earlobes. Her credentials? Hunting guide in the Alaskan wilderness. But no Rodinov ever had to protect Princess Nicole Krenski. No thanks necessary.) Look Out For… Blockbuster by Lisa Von Biela “A fast-paced thriller where the horror comes from human greed and corruption.” Instead of lying in wait under the waves, the USS Barb pursued enemy ships on the surface, attacking in the swift and precise style of torpedo boats. All strove for personal excellence, and success became contagious. Each team helped develop innovative ideas, new tactics, and new strategies. The unique story of the Barb begins with its men, who had the confidence to become unbeatable. And in a fascinating twist, he uses archival documents from the Japanese Navy to give its version of events. Fluckey has drawn on logs, reports, letters, interviews, and a recently discovered illegal diary kept by one of his torpedomen. This is a gripping adventure chock-full of 'you-are-there' moments. At the same time, the Barb did far more than merely sink ships-she changed forever the way submarines stalk and kill their prey. Under the leadership of her fearless skipper, Captain Gene Fluckey, the Barb sank the greatest tonnage of any American sub in World War II. The thunderous roar of exploding depth charges was a familiar and comforting sound to the crew members of the USS Barb, who frequently found themselves somewhere between enemy fire and Davy Jones's locker. The ways that Chris and Rebecca mess up might have some more ardent readers of this genre raising their eyebrows, but I loved it because it was relatable and real. Surprisingly, thanks to the author's deft and talented hand, none of this comes across as heavy-handed or "preachy," which has largely been my experience in faith-based fiction. Astfalk manages to tackle big topics like propriety, communication, theology, sex, love, family relations, marriage, and the nature of sin, all within the context of this deceptively light book. What begins as a simple love story transpires into a complex tapestry about the human experience. Chris and Rebecca are well-rounded characters who have flaws but work past those flaws in order to love each other. This book has almost everything I'm looking for in a romance. Astfalk's online presence, both on her blog/website and through conversations in our online writing group, so I finally bit the bullet and started in on her debut novel. I don't usually read straight romance or inspirational fiction. Stay With Me stayed in my to-be-read pile for quite a while before I finally got around to reading it. This in no way detracts from the honesty of my review.
